Clen Vance

Funny, Intelligent & Black

Biting and thought-provoking essays on a whole range of topics:

  1. Michael Jackson

  2. Bill Cosby

  3. Venus / Serena Williams;

  4. Jeremiah Wright;

  5. Barack Obama

and others!

“...you will laugh, shake your head
...or shout.”

“(W)right or Racist”
Vance asks what really worried America about the message of Obama’s controversial preacher during the 2008 campaign, skewering the media, politicians — and even the then-candidate’s own gun-shy supporters.

“Not So Precious” examines the self-hating, disingenuous and retro themes in the critically acclaimed movie Precious.

“Still Bill,” Vance addresses the African American community’s backlash against Bill Cosby

Vance leavens his sharp insight with a savvy wit, wide historical context, and personal experiences here in America and a remarkable trip to Africa.

Funny, Black, and Intelligent is a cross between Ralph Wiley and Bill Cosby — with a touch of Malcolm X — that will make you laugh, shake your head, or even shout.

Cken Vance is currently the associate chair of the Mathematics Department at Houston Community College-Central, where he has been a professor for over 25 years. Vance has a B.S in Mathematics from Clark-Atlanta University and a M.Ed in mathematics education from the University of Houston.

Clen has performed as a stand-up comedian for over 15 years, working with Paul Mooney, George Lopez, Margaret Cho, Lewis Black and many others.
